Shanice Flythe grew up in the “Seven Cities” area of Virginia. As what some would call “a product of their environment,” Shanice became a misguided teen. With an incarcerated mother and a grandmother who could not keep her because she was growing older, Shanice was placed in the foster care system at the age of 13 – a system that she would remain in until she aged out at the age of 21.

Not allowing herself to fall victim in a system where many can get lost, Shanice used her experiences to create a life that she knew she deserved. She graduated from Phoebus High School in 2007 and two years later she graduated from Virginia School of Hair Design where she earned her cosmetology license and began her career as a nail technician.

Charge Up Campaign, Inc featured on American Express

Charessa Sawyer is president and CEO of Charge Up Campaign, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting, educating, empowering and celebrating people who have experienced health, social and economic concerns as a result of cancer.

Charge UP facilitates programs and events that celebrate and assist cancer survivors, caregivers and oncology medical professionals.

“One of the accomplishments I’m most proud of is Charge Up Campaign’s ability to provide mental health wellness support for those affected by cancer, including caregivers who we recognize as our silent warriors,” says Sawyer, whose background is in social work.

Joi Filled Delights media before Cooking Channel appearance

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) — Joi Roberts, 23, is a professional baker in the Columbia area who creates delicious works of art. She’s also one of three bakers competing this week in a show on the Cooking Channel.

“It was probably the most stress I’ve ever been under in this business, but it was the most fun, adrenaline rush ever,” said Joi Roberts, Owner of Joi-Filled Delights.

She grew up watching baking competitions and shows.

“I remember watching and being like ‘I’m going to be on the other side of this TV one day,’” said Joi.

Thanks to her Instagram page, she’ll now be on the other side of the TV.
